The Saint Thomas More Society is hosting Sr. Damien Marie Savino, a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist and a Visiting Professor of Environmental Engineering at Notre Dame, to speak about the substance of recent papal teaching on stewardship of the environment. The late Pope Francis was well known for his emphasis on preserving the planet, and, in the early months of his pontificate, Pope Leo XVI has reiterated and extended Pope Francis's teaching on matters of environmental justice. Sr. Savino will explain in detail "Laudato Si," Pope Francis's 2015 encyclical, which explains in theological terms why stewardship of the planet is a binding obligation for the Church, particularly in the modern world.
