Abstract

On 11 March 2022, the MARC Formats Transition Interest Group (MFTIG) hosted an online program via Zoom during the ALA Core Virtual Interest Group Week, featuring two presentations on creation of Linked Open Data in Wikidata for library archives and ethical concerns for libraries and museums in the Linked Open Data environment. Following the last virtual program during the ALA Core Virtual Interest Group Week in July 2021, this program is MFTIG’s continued commitment and support to providing a forum for the library community to learn about the ongoing efforts to transition from the MARC Standards and examine approaches and strategies for implementing library data within the framework of Linked Open Data and Semantic Web. As the library community contemplates transitioning from MARC and moving to a new direction (such as Linked Open Data), it is consequential for us to think about how to create and leverage data more efficiently and in an ethical way.
